CITIZEN AND JUNIOR CITIZEN OF THE YEAR

Grasslands Regional FCSS, in partnership with the local Rotary Club, hosts the Citizen and Junior Citizen of the Year annually. This initiative offers opportunity to honor the citizen and junior citizens in our area for their tireless contributions to our communities. Also honoured are the Volunteer Resource Centre’s Volunteer of the Month. The event is timed as a kick-off for National Volunteer Week in April of each year.

PROVINCIAL FCSS 40th ANNIVERSARY, 2006

Communities across the province staged celebrations to mark the 40th Anniversary of Alberta’s Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) legislation. Originally called Preventive Social Services, FCSS was established in 1966 to strengthen Alberta’s social programs. A 20/80 funding partnership between municipalities and the provincial government, Alberta is the only province with an FCSS Program.

The original City (then Town) of Brooks FCSS’ Board of Directors consisted of: Don Murray; Jean Franklin;  Martin Shields; Lillian Bouvier; Maxine Taylor; Ann Zukowski; Robin Hartly and Marian Wells.

A celebration was held at Brooks Campus with seven-five people in attendance. Special guests were members of the original FCSS Board!

FCSS's original three, cutting the cake!
